Education Exhibition: Who Wears the Future?
20th - 30th January 2026

Through a programme of collaborative making, participants have explored how history, tradition, memory and cultural knowledge continue to shape who we are — and how these aspects can be transformed and reimagined for the future. Rather than treating the future as something distant, Who Wears the Future? considers it as something already being created through relationships, communities, creativity and the stories people choose to carry forward.
A major focus of the exhibition is the body as a place of memory, identity and transformation. Contributors have drawn inspiration from African and diasporic traditions of Mas Carnival, masquerade, cloth, tattoo, adornment and symbolic making, alongside contemporary artistic practice. Through making and experimentation, they have explored how culture is passed between generations and continually reimagined through lived experience. The resulting exhibition includes sculpture, masks, textiles, animation, body casting, printmaking, wearable forms and collaborative installation. Marks made on the body, woven structures, repeated patterns and collective acts of making become ways of asking: What is inherited? What do we transform? And what do we choose to pass on?
The exhibition reflects the diverse perspectives of October Gallery's learning community, bringing together the experiences and ideas of young people, educators, artists and community members. Influenced by October Gallery's artists and developed through collaboration, Who Wears the Future? explores culture not as something fixed, but as something living — shaped collectively, carried across generations and continually remade.
