OCTOBER GALLERY, RETURNS & REFUNDS POLICY

Last updated: 26 August 2026. This policy applies to items bought from our online shop for delivery. It does not affect your statutory rights.

In short:

  • Books, catalogues and other publications – return within 30 days of delivery.
  • Artworks, prints and editions – return within 14 days of delivery.
  • We give refunds. We do not offer exchanges.
  • There is no restocking fee.
  • You pay the cost of returning an item if you simply change your mind. We pay if the item is faulty, damaged or not as described.

1. YOUR LEGAL RIGHT TO CANCEL
Because you are buying at a distance, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 give you the right to cancel your order within 14 days of receiving the goods, without giving any reason. This is a legal minimum and applies to everything we sell online, including original artworks. You then have a further 14 days to send the goods back to us.

The windows set out below are our own policy. Where they are longer than the statutory 14 days, the longer period applies.

2. OUR RETURN WINDOWS
Books, catalogues and publications: you may return these for any reason within 30 days of the delivery date.
Artworks, prints and editions: you may return these for any reason within 14 days of the delivery date, in line with your statutory cancellation right.

3. ARTWORKS NOT SOLD ONLINE
Original works priced at £5,000 or above are not sold directly through our online shop. These are available by enquiry, and any sale is arranged with the gallery directly. Terms for those sales are agreed in writing at the time and are not governed by this policy.

4. CONDITION OF RETURNED ITEMS
Items must be returned complete, unused and in the condition in which you received them, with any original packaging, certificates of authenticity, slipcases or presentation boxes. You may handle an item as you reasonably would in a shop in order to examine it. If the value of the goods is reduced because you have handled them more than that, we may deduct that reduction from your refund.

5. HOW TO RETURN AN ITEM
Please contact us before sending anything back, so that we can confirm the return address and, for artworks, agree suitable packing. Email us at or telephone +44 (0)20 7242 7367, quoting your order number. You may also write to us at October Gallery, 24 Old Gloucester Street, Bloomsbury, London WC1N 3AL.

You do not have to give a reason for returning an item, and you may use the statutory cancellation form if you wish, but a clear statement by email or letter is enough.

6. RETURN POSTAGE
If you are returning an item because you have changed your mind, you are responsible for the cost of returning it and for its safe arrival. We strongly recommend using a tracked and adequately insured service, particularly for artworks and heavy catalogues, as we cannot refund an item that does not reach us.

If the item is faulty, damaged in transit, or not as described, we pay the return postage. Contact us first and we will arrange collection or reimburse the cost.

7. REFUNDS
Once we have received the item back and checked its condition, we will refund you within 14 days, and in most cases considerably sooner. Refunds are made to the original payment method. We refund the price of the goods together with the standard outbound delivery charge you originally paid; if you chose a more expensive delivery option, we refund the standard rate only.

Where you have cancelled under your statutory right but have not yet returned the goods, we may withhold the refund until we receive them back, or until you supply evidence of postage, whichever is earlier.

8. FAULTY, DAMAGED OR INCORRECT ITEMS
Nothing in this policy limits your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If an item is faulty, damaged on arrival, or not as described, you have a short-term right to reject it for a full refund within 30 days of delivery, and may otherwise be entitled to a repair, replacement or partial refund. Please tell us as soon as you can, with photographs where the item arrived damaged, and we will put it right at our cost.

9. EXCHANGES
We do not offer exchanges. If you would like a different item, please return the original for a refund under this policy and place a new order.

10. RESTOCKING FEES
We do not charge a restocking fee.

11. ITEMS THIS POLICY DOES NOT COVER
The statutory right to cancel does not apply to goods made to your specification or clearly personalised, such as a commissioned work made to your requirements. This exception is narrow: it does not apply simply because a work is unique or one of a kind. Where it does apply, we will make that clear in writing before you commit to the purchase.
